USAID-Haiti/FHI360 Printing, Shipping, and Logistics
In the span of a mere 19 days during July and August 2016, StratComm demonstrated its proficiency in fast-turnaround, large-scale international logistics on a project for the FHI360 organization under contract with USAID-Haiti. Previously, we had performed on similar large-scale book printing and delivery projects for USAID in both Tanzania and Indonesia.
For this project, the challenge was coordinating and performing the final design production, pre-press, printing, binding, kitting, shipping, and delivery of French- and Creole-language textbooks, posters, and student and teacher workbooks for schoolchildren in 320 schools throughout Haiti.
Operating within extreme time constraints and frequent specification changes during pre-press, we produced 18 different books and posters, resulting in these eye-popping numbers:
- More than 113,000 books printed, totaling 24.3 million pages
- More than 10,000 posters printed and laminated
- More than 33,000 feet of wire for binding
- Almost 130,000 pounds of shipment weight
While the books were printed, we scheduled four tractor trailers to be driven non-stop to Miami International Airport, and then for the entire shipment to be flown via two direct charter flights to Port-au-Prince airport in Haiti. StratComm safely delivered all the materials in excellent condition, ahead of schedule.
Our team is proud of its performance on this important project to foster educational development internationally, a mission that StratComm takes great pride in.
